Die Schlacht von Hastings / Battle of Hastings im September 1066 machte die Stadt im südenglischen County East Sussex berühmt und wird heute noch umfassend in Hastings in Ausstellungen, Veranstaltungen und kulturellen Angeboten thematisiert. Dabei fand die berühmte Schlacht von Hastings gar nicht bei Hastings, sondern nördlich der Stadt nahe des heutigen Örtchens Battle statt, wie auch der Ortsname schon erahnen lässt.
